A newly disclosed data breach at a US-based healthcare firm has triggered a warning for 87,565 Americans.
According to a filing with the Maine Attorney General’s office, Healthcare Interactive, also known as HCIactive, says hackers gained unauthorized access to sensitive files on its systems over the summer.
The breach potentially compromised names, contact details, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, and sensitive medical data tied to diagnoses, prescriptions, and treatment histories.
Although there is no confirmation yet that the stolen information has been misused, cybersecurity analysts warn that the combination of personal identifiers and medical details presents a long-term risk for victims because these data points are difficult to replace and are frequently exploited for identity theft, fraudulent credit activity, and fake insurance claims.
Healthcare Interactive says it launched an immediate forensic investigation after detecting suspicious activity and has begun notifying affected individuals.
The company is now urging people to monitor their financial accounts and insurance statements closely, review credit reports, and remain alert to suspicious calls or emails.
