Elon Musk vowed to start a third party if the Big Beautiful Bill passed, and it’s becoming a law today. It’s the 4th of July, and several “America Party”-themed meme coins are enjoying a frenzy of activity.
Still, Musk’s community poll shows over 60% in favor of the plan, which is encouraging but not decisive. His previous efforts at boosting local races failed, and this goal would be significantly harder.
Can Elon Musk Start a Third Party?
The 4th of July is here, and one of President Trump’s biggest legislative accomplishments is about to become law.
Yesterday, the Big Beautiful Bill passed its final vote, removing its last major obstacle. However, Elon Musk vowed to split with Trump over the issue, claiming that he would launch the America Party to compete with Republicans.
Musk has been talking about this third party for most of the last week, and he’s checking for community feedback.
Votes in favor of this plan currently hold around 60% of community interest, but Elon Musk literally owns X. In other words, this plan doesn’t seem to command overwhelming support, even within his core audience.
Naturally, Elon Musk is a huge figure in the meme coin sector, and his plans to launch a third party spawned a corresponding token.
As the tech CEO discussed plans to develop a new institution, AP (America Party) spiked over 150%. It reached a $10 million market cap and is currently the most trending token on DexScreener.
This Solana-based meme coin is one of five “America Party” tokens currently trending in the wake of Musk’s comments. Of course, today is also the US Independence Day, so this might further spur action for meme coins with patriotic branding.
Whatever the case is, Musk’s prior feuds with Trump have fueled meme coin trading, and he seems serious about this plan:
“One way to execute on this [third party plan] would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts. Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people,” Musk claimed over social media.
However, Musk will potentially have a very difficult time establishing a third political party in the US. When he and Trump were close allies, Musk tried to boost several GOP races in Wisconsin, but this effort completely failed.
He still has ample resources, but this new challenge would be significantly more difficult.
All that is to say, Pump.fun traders are taking the chance to speculate on Musk’s proposed America Party with some crypto trades.
While the viral hype will likely continue among meme coin enthusiasts in the coming weeks, it will also drive potential scams and more pump-and-dump schemes.
