EigenDA V2, a data availability solution, debuts on Ethereum’s mainnet, boasting a 100 MB/s throughput, marking a significant milestone coinciding with Ethereum’s 10th anniversary.

In a significant development for the Ethereum ecosystem, EigenCloud has launched EigenDA V2 on the Ethereum mainnet, offering a groundbreaking throughput of 100 megabytes per second. This launch coincides with Ethereum’s 10th anniversary, marking a decade of innovation and progress in the blockchain space, according to EigenCloud.

Revolutionizing Data Availability

EigenDA V2 is hailed as the fastest data availability (DA) solution available, with the capability to process over 800,000 ERC-20 transfers and 80,000 token swaps per second. This new version doubles the previous testnet target of 50 MB/s, demonstrating significant advancements in efficiency and scalability.

The solution is already securing over $2 billion in customer assets, accounting for 75% of all assets on Ethereum’s Layer 2 solutions. Prominent users like Fuel and Aevo are already operational on the mainnet, while MegaETH and Celo are in the testnet phase.

Technical Innovations in EigenDA V2

EigenDA V2 introduces several technical improvements, including a cleaner separation of control and data planes, simplified data allocation, and a custom database optimized for DA loads. These changes have reduced latency by 60 times, achieving an average latency of 5 seconds.

The architectural update involves a distinct separation of data plane and control plane communications within the core protocol. This improvement optimizes high-bandwidth downloads and facilitates permissionless dispersal for validators.

Custom Database Optimizations

To support its high throughput, EigenDA V2 utilizes a custom database system, LittDB, which excels at embedded key-value storage. LittDB’s unique design trade-offs enable it to maintain high performance on commodity hardware, crucial for sustaining the demanding workloads of EigenDA V2.

Global Testing and Adoption

EigenDA V2 underwent rigorous testing across geographically decentralized settings, replicating mainnet conditions. This involved 14 independent validators across three continents and additional external validators, ensuring robust performance and reliability.

Fuel Network and Aevo have already transitioned to EigenDA V2, leveraging its capabilities to pursue their ambitious growth targets. This transition marks a new phase of scalability and efficiency for applications on the Ethereum network.

With EigenDA V2, EigenCloud aims to support not only blockchain rollups but also broader applications in AI inference, gaming, and video streaming, striving to meet data throughput demands at a global scale.
