Here Come NFTs for Kids: YouTube Smash CoComelon Heading to Flow Blockchain

In brief

  • Social media app Zigazoo will sell NFTs based on popular kids’ media properties.
  • NFTs based on CoComelon and more will be released via the Flow blockchain.

The NFT market is constantly expanding—and the next target audience for tokenized digital collectibles could be young children. At least, that’s the crowd that kid-centric social media app Zigazoo is betting on with its new NFT platform, which will feature major properties like YouTube sensation CoComelon.

Zigazoo revealed its full plans today, announcing an initiative to introduce NFT collectibles that help young people learn and better understand the technology via kid-friendly content. The platform will be hosted on Flow, the same blockchain platform behind NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day. Flow creator Dapper Labs is an investor in Zigazoo.

Moonbug Entertainment will bring the CoComelon, Blippi, and My Magic Pet Morphle video franchises to Zigazoo’s NFT platform, starting with CoComelon. The CoComelon NFTs will feature main character JJ “in his signature outfits,” according to a release.

CoComelon is an enormously popular YouTube channel that produces nursery rhyme-themed animated content for young kids. It has 132 million followers and has amassed more than 126 billion views to date, making it one of the most-viewed YouTube channels in the world.

No timeframe has been announced for the CoComelon and other Moonbug NFT launches.

Zigazoo will also launch NFTs from Invisible Universe’s Qai Qai character, inspired by a doll created for Alexis Olympia Ohanian, daughter of tennis star Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Zigazoo NFT debut

Before those franchises launch, Zigazoo will first debut NFTs from 13-year-old artist Nyla Hayes, whose Long Neckie Ladies artwork shows people (including famous figures) with elongated necks.

She has previously released other NFTs, including through TIME magazine’s TIMEPieces initiative, where she was named the project’s artist in residence. Hayes’ new NFTs through Zigazoo will be released today, and she will serve as a community educator for the platform.

“With Nyla’s leadership and the support of Moonbug and Invisible Universe, Zigazoo is giving kids across the world the opportunity to express themselves through art and practice essential financial literacy skills that are at the core of the Web3 experience and their future economy,” said Zak Ringelstein, Founder and CEO of Zigazoo, in a release.

All packs of NFTs on the Zigazoo platform will be sold at three rarity levels for $5.99, $19.99, and $49.99, respectively. Users can also customize their avatars on the platform, as well as create and share custom content based on their owned NFTs. They can trade NFTs with other users on the platform, as well.
