MetaMask adds Cash App Pay via MoonPay for U.S. users

MoonPay has introduced Cash App Pay as a payment method for buying digital assets and has made the option available inside MetaMask for eligible U.S. customers. The integration enables users to select their Cash App balance at checkout and fund crypto purchases directly into self‑custody wallets.

How the integration works

Previously, Cash App users could only purchase Bitcoin and USDC through the app. By routing transactions through MoonPay’s checkout flow, Cash App balances can now be used to acquire a broader range of tokens. The purchased assets are deposited into self‑custody wallets such as MetaMask and Trust Wallet, giving users direct control of their funds.

Users do not need to log in to a separate account or enter card details. They simply choose Cash App Pay at checkout, confirm the transaction, and the funds are transferred from their Cash App balance to the selected token.

Payment method landscape

Cash App Pay joins other payment options already supported by MoonPay, including PayPal and Venmo. The addition expands the on‑ramp options available to MetaMask users in the United States.

Implications for users

Cash App reports roughly 57 – 59 million monthly active users. The new payment rail may lower the barrier for those users who have not previously purchased crypto beyond Cash App’s native offerings. Because the assets are delivered to self‑custody wallets, users retain private‑key control, unlike custodial platforms that hold the assets on their behalf.

Industry context

MetaMask’s decision to surface Cash App Pay through MoonPay reflects a focus on expanding accessibility for U.S. users. Cash App is a licensed money‑services business, so the integration does not require additional regulatory steps. For Block, the parent company of Cash App, the move extends its crypto presence without the need to develop new infrastructure.
