Metaplanet Reaches 20,000 Bitcoin and Issues Additional Shares



Metaplanet Inc., a Tokyo-listed company, has increased its Bitcoin holdings to 20,000 Bitcoin after purchasing 1,009 Bitcoin for approximately ¥16.48 billion (~$112 million), according to a company announcement on Monday. 

At the same time, the firm reported issuing 11.5 million new shares following the exercise of investor warrants.

Figures from BitcoinTreasuries.net rank Metaplanet as the largest corporate Bitcoin holder in Japan and the sixth largest globally. 

The company’s average purchase price is reported at $102,607 per Bitcoin, with a current unrealized gain of about 6.75%.

Investor Evo Fund acquired 10 million shares at $5.67 and an additional 1.5 million shares at slightly under $6, amounting to approximately $65.7 million. 

A portion of the funds was used by Metaplanet to redeem around $20.4 million in outstanding bonds. Evo Fund retains rights to purchase up to 34.5 million more shares.

The company has also outlined plans to raise approximately ¥130.3 billion ($880 million) through a public share offering in overseas markets. 

In addition, shareholders are scheduled to vote on a proposal that would authorize the issuance of up to 555 million preferred shares, potentially generating up to ¥555 billion ($3.7 billion).
