Pi Network News: Pi Network Unveils Critical Node Update in Preparation for Rewards Migration

Pi Network releases Node version 0.5.4, introducing a new port tracking mechanism to secure bonus calculations and pave the way for Node rewards migration.

The Pi Network ecosystem has successfully deployed a major update to its Node application, now officially known as Pi Desktop. This new release version 0.5.4 makes a number of key improvements in performance and the Pioneer experience itself. Crucially, the update has a strong emphasis on increased reliability, accessibility, and calculation of Node rewards.

New Port Verification Mechanism Essential for Secure Rewards

An integral bit of version 0.5.4 is the addition of an advanced and improved system. This mechanism is hard-working in keeping track of the open ports for every Pioneer Node in the network. In essence, this is a critical update for better and safer calculations of the bonus rewards of the nodes. As such, this step is an important building block. It is part of the bigger, longer-term aim of enabling the migration of existing Node mining rewards.

The new version does a pretty good job of addressing and resolving several issues. These bugs have been reported very commonly by community Node operators during the last release of 0.5.3. Furthermore, the above fixes are specific to the issues dealing with the mining rewards for Node in cryptocurrency, automatic updates, also as the creation of the blocks container. The resolution of these matters makes the Node reliability tremendously increased. This provides much easier operation in a wide variety of user environments.

The team has also made great advances in user experience. For example, Pi Desktop had expanded the functionality of opening external links. This is a huge improvement, as previously, external redirects were disabled entirely. This new feature has Pioneers able to easily access blog postings, resources, and updates. These are connected directly from the mining application and Pi App Studio.

Direct App Studio Access Streamlines Developer Experience

Access to the Pi App Studio has been made that much easier for any user. As part of the recent update the Studio is now instantly accessible. This being placed on the top navigation bar of Pi Desktop puts it in a similar place to the Pi mining application and the Node. This direct access supersedes what it used to be. It was buried before in the mining application in the Utilities tab.

Moreover, the update also addresses a very important display problem in the App Studio. Specifically, one issue to address some applications deployed were not showing previews as they should have been totally fixed. This correction will doubtless prove a boon for the increasing tribe of developers. These improvements are a combined solution to increase the pivotal dual remote purpose of the Node. It is a main stake of the Pi blockchain as well as a vital ecosystem platform that is a platform for an ecosystem utility.

The release is preceded by a new initiative announced recently. This project enables nodes that run Pi to be able to perform computations on behalf of third-parties. Building off of this, Pi Network is looking to later publish a case study in its entirety.

In the end, this report will relay the successful results of the proof-of-concept project to a partner called OpenMind. The initiative is ambitious in its vision of the powerful capability of Pi’s expansive and global network of Nodes. In particular, it provides tests on their potential to support decentralised AI training and other computing tasks.
