Richard Teng: Binance’s new CEO with 30 years’ experience in finance and regulation

Yesterday Changpeng CZ Zhao appointed the new CEO of Binance, Richard Teng, calling him a highly qualified leader in financial services and regulation. Here is a mirror on who Teng is.

Richard Teng: Changpeng Zhao’s introduction of Binance’s new CEO

Yesterday, Changpeng Zhao (or CZ) introduced Binance’s new CEO Richard Teng in his tweet, writing the following:

“I’m pleased to announce that Richard Teng, our now former Global Head of Regional Markets, has been named the new CEO of Binance today.

Richard is a highly qualified leader and, with over three decades of financial services and regulatory experience, he will navigate the company through its next period of growth. He will ensure Binance delivers on our next phase of security, transparency, compliance, and growth.

Prior to joining Binance, Richard was CEO of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority at Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM); Chief Regulatory Officer of the Singapore Exchange (SGX); and Director of Corporate Finance in the Monetary Authority of Singapore.”

In practice, Teng was most recently global head of regional markets at Binance, as well as former CEO of Abu Dhabi Global Market, the UAE capital’s financial services regulator.

Not only that, between 1994 and 2015 (21 years) Teng served as director of corporate finance at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and chief regulatory officer at the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX).

Hence, this is someone who has worked in the financial services and regulatory sector for more than 30 years.

Richard Teng: what are the intentions of the new CEO of Binance?

Teng himself decided to introduce himself on X, revealing his intentions regarding Binance, but more importantly asking users for the right support.

Basically, Teng said he will work to reassure users in continuing to trust the crypto-exchange and the company. Not only that, Binance’s new CEO will aim to work with regulators and Web3 partners.

Thirty years’ experience in finance and regulation

Hence, from what emerges, Teng has 30 years of experience in the finance and regulatory sector.

Not only that, the new CEO is also already familiar with how Binance works, having been recruited by the company in 2021.

And in fact, in his lengthy introductory tweet, it is precisely all the knowledge he has acquired in his long career that will lead him to guide the “bright” future of the crypto-trading platform.

Among the various comments in Teng’s tweet, the first seems to be from Justin Sun, founder of Tron, who wanted to congratulate Binance’s new CEO and also renew their partnership.
