Somnia: today the official launch

Today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, marks the official launch of Somnia.

The migration of Quills to Somnia is indeed scheduled for today.

With today’s launch, the mainnet and the native crypto SOMI will be activated.

What is Somnia

Somnia is a new high-performance layer-1 blockchain specifically designed for gaming and entertainment.

It is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and it has been designed to support real-time applications intended for the general public.

The launch of the mainnet follows the testnet period, which lasted six months, during which over 2 billion transactions were processed.

In the past six months, more than 118 million wallets have already interacted on the testnet, and more than 70 partners have been attracted to the ecosystem.

Somnia is specifically designed to support concrete applications in the gaming, DeFi, and social sectors, on a scale that is hoped to be unprecedented. In fact, its creators describe today’s launch as one of the most significant blockchain launches of the year.

It is based on an exclusive architecture called MultiStream, thanks to which it can process more than a million transactions per second with immediate finalization. The goal is to achieve seamless scalability without compromising decentralization.

The SOMI Crypto

The native cryptocurrency of Somnia, SOMI, has not yet landed on the crypto markets.

However, an airdrop will be conducted via Binance Alpha.

Eligible users will be able to claim their airdrop on the Alpha Events page using Binance Alpha Points on the Alpha Events page at the opening of trading today. They can claim an airdrop of 100 SOMI tokens within 24 hours from the start of trading.

The airdrop will occur in two phases.

During the initial phase, specifically within the first 18 hours from the start of trading on Binance, only users with at least 235 Binance Alpha Points will be able to request the airdrop.

During the second phase, in the following 6 hours, users with at least 220 Binance Alpha Points can also participate in the airdrop, based on the order of arrival.

If the rewards are not fully distributed during these first 24 hours, the score threshold will automatically decrease by 15 points every hour.

The airdrop will only consume 15 Binance Alpha points.

Binance Alpha is the first platform to list SOMI.

The Migration of Quills

Quills is a collection of NFTs on Somnia.

It was launched in March of this year, and already has more than 3,000 NFTs, with a total market capitalization exceeding 733,000 ETH, and a total trading volume of about 1,074 ETH.

As of today, the NFTs will be migrated to the Somnia mainnet.

In the last quarter of this year, Quills: The Medieval War will be launched on Epic Games.

It is presented as a new chapter in medieval warfare, allowing you to virtually enter the battlefield of the Hundred Years’ War by siding either with France or with the English crown.

Dreamathon

Somnia in August also launched its Dreamathon.

This is an 8-week pilot incubator for teams creating real-time reactive apps on Somnia.

It will host 20 selected teams, including 10 finalists who will receive grants starting from $20,000.

In this way, after the launch of the mainnet, developers will be able to work on creating dapps based on blockchain, with low latency and high speed, particularly for the gaming world.

Google Cloud

Yesterday Somnia announced that it has added Google Cloud as a validator.

In this way, Somnia’s enterprise-level infrastructure strengthens the security, reliability, and decentralization of the network, with the aim of expanding its range of games and decentralized applications.

The advanced infrastructure of Google Cloud will significantly enhance the security of Somnia, the transaction validation capabilities, and the overall performance of the network.

The Somnia testnet (Somnia Shannon DevNet) on Google Cloud infrastructure has already reached a peak of 1 million transactions per second and has surpassed 10 billion total transactions. Developers can use it to create, test, and deploy decentralized applications with enterprise-level reliability and performance.

Somnia is also exploring the integration of blockchain data with Google Cloud’s BigQuery data warehouse to create an analytics platform for developers and project founders. This would allow real-time access to on-chain data, supporting the development of sophisticated applications, machine learning models, and institutional-grade solutions.
