A Tennessee man has been arrested for stealing over $11 million in cryptocurrency and nearly $400,000 in cash from his partner, Nancy Jones. Nancy is the widow of legendary country singer George Jones. Kirk West, a 58-year-old man living in Franklin was arrested on July 24, at Nashville International Airport.
Nancy Jones’ Digital Assets Stolen in Major XRP Theft Case
West was apprehended the very next day that Nancy had reported a theft case. She informed that West had stolen the money and a Ledger wallet with millions of digital assets out of two safes at her residence. This theft supposedly happened sometime during the end of June (June 26), when Nancy noticed that the safes were empty.
According to court documents, the stolen crypto wallet carried with it more than 5.5 million XRP tokens, which is a digital currency worth 2.10 dollars per unit during that time. This increased the amount of the stolen cryptocurrency to over 11 million dollars. In the case of West, the value of the digital assets had reached more than 17 million by the time he was arrested by authorities.
Although the legal steps were fast, Nancy could recover approximately 5 million XRP tokens with her team. That leaves approximately 500,000 XRP unaccounted for, which is now worth approximately 1.5 million dollars. This lost part is a large loss of finances that is not yet recovered.
West has landed into big legal trouble. He has been accused of property theft of more than 250 thousand dollars, which is a felony offense. The bond of his has been fixed at $1 million. West might receive a long jail term in case he is found guilty. His court appearance is scheduled on October 23.
Nancy Jones has not made any public statements about the incident. However, her lawyer has already ascertained that she is the real victim of this case. West in contrast has not addressed the charges openly.
Nancy’s Ex Promised Millions, Delivered Theft
Nancy is not a first-time victim of heartbreak. She had been with George Jones in his struggles with drugs and health problems until he died in 2013. She subsequently assisted in the creation of the George Jones Museum in Nashville to carry on his legacy to the next generation.
It is reported that Nancy and West met some years ago and ended up in a love affair. According to West, he was an expert in cryptocurrencies, and he persuaded Nancy to invest in such digital currencies as XRP, Ethereum, SHIB, and DOGE. Nancy trusted him and followed his advice. Unfortunately, that trust caused a loss of money and betrayal.
The situation changed when Nancy felt that West was a cheat. On June 26, she requested her granddaughter to assist her in securing her safes. It was at this time that she realized that she had lost the money and the wallet. Nancy approached West, who told her that she would only get $5 million of the amount. Later, he was taken out of the house.
To sum up, the relationship filled with trust turned out to be one of the largest personal crypto thefts of this year. As the lawsuit date has been scheduled and the legal battle is on, justice can be served any time soon; however, the emotional and financial wounds might take years to recover.
