Tether Acquires 8,888 Bitcoin in Q1 as Holdings Reach Over Billion

Tether purchased 8,888 Bitcoin in the first quarter of 2025 for approximately $735 million, bringing its total holdings to 92,646 Bitcoin—currently valued at around $8 billion.

The transaction, recorded on April 1st, follows Tether’s routine of moving new Bitcoin purchases into its reserve wallet at the end of each quarter.

The wallet now holds the sixth-largest known amount of Bitcoin, according to Arkham Intelligence data.

Since initiating Bitcoin acquisitions in September 2022, Tether has committed to allocating up to 15% of its quarterly net profits to Bitcoin. The company says the strategy supports long-term diversification.

At current prices, the holdings represent about $3.86 billion in unrealized gains.

Bitcoin declined nearly 12% in Q1 2025—its worst first-quarter performance since 2018—amid macroeconomic uncertainty and shifting investor sentiment.

Business Expansion and Audit Efforts

Tether reported $13 billion in net income for 2024, driven largely by interest from U.S. Treasuries and gains on digital assets like Bitcoin and gold.

The company is also expanding into Bitcoin mining, energy infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.
