Tether Donates 0,000 to OpenSats for Open-Source Bitcoin Initiatives

Tether announced a $250,000 donation to OpenSats, a nonprofit organization that funds open-source projects related to Bitcoin and other privacy and security-focused technologies.

According to Tether, the contribution is intended to support OpenSats’ grant-making programs and operations, which provide funding to developers, researchers, and educators working on tools and infrastructure within the Bitcoin and broader open-source ecosystem.

OpenSats, a 501(c)(3) public charity, allocates all donated funds directly to grantees while covering operational expenses through separate contributions.

The organization’s board of nine members evaluates and distributes grants across a range of projects, including Bitcoin protocol development, privacy software, research, and education.

“We at Tether believe that Bitcoin, and the free, open-source software that powers it, are indispensable to a freer and decentralized future,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether.

“OpenSats is on the front line supporting the continued growth of this ecosystem by funding the next generation of innovators, and we are proud to support their work.”

Since its establishment, OpenSats has issued more than 300 grants to developers and contributors focused on what it describes as “freedom tech” projects.

“OpenSats has provided over 300 grants to developers working on freedom tech projects. Support from Tether will help us continue to scale our mission globally,” said Matt Odell, co-founder of OpenSats.

The donation follows Tether’s previous funding efforts for open-source and Bitcoin-related initiatives, part of the company’s broader strategy to support decentralized technology development.
