The toolkit is intended to allow developers and organizations to build self-custodial wallets that can operate across various platforms and blockchain networks.
According to the company, the WDK enables users to develop wallets that function on mobile, desktop, server, and embedded devices.
The framework supports multiple blockchains, including Bitcoin, the Lightning Network, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, TON, and Solana.
“Self-custodial wallets are the cornerstone of a free and resilient monetary infrastructure,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether.
“We imagine a world where humans, autonomous machines, and AI Agents have the freedom to control their own finances. In that future, where programmable money is the social network across the fabric of society, WDK by Tether is the cornerstone of the financial backbone, a fully open-source, self-custodial toolkit designed to be modular, independent, resilient, and infinitely scalable, enabling trillions of wallets.”
The WDK includes USDT0 network-scaling technology aimed at improving liquidity and interoperability.
Developers can incorporate decentralized finance (DeFi) functions such as lending, swaps, and payments, as well as utilize built-in templates and key management tools.
Tether stated that the kit simplifies technical processes such as cross-chain asset transfers, real-time balance updates, and transaction tracking.
The company also said that the WDK can be used to create wallets for both human and machine users, including autonomous systems and connected devices.
“From smartphones to smart fridges, from trading bots to spaceships – WDK by Tether enables financial sovereignty across all environments,” the announcement stated.
Tether noted that its upcoming Rumble Wallet and a future self-custodial product will both be built using the WDK.
The framework currently supports Bitcoin, Lightning, USD₮, and XAU₮, with future plans to include USA₮.
The company said the toolkit is available for free use and modification at wallet.tether.io.
