Conor McGregor, the UFC star turned political candidate, has recently proposed a plan to create a Bitcoin reserve in Ireland. His goal is to “give power back to the people” by backing the idea of an Irish Bitcoin strategic reserve. McGregor shared on X (formerly Twitter) on the 9th of May, pointing out the initial idea behind cryptocurrency in giving individuals power and suggesting that an Irish Bitcoin fund could help to make more people financially independent.

Bitcoin Hits $105K as McGregor Renews Crypto Advocacy

McGregor’s call has created interest in the crypto sphere, and we expect further details at his upcoming X Spaces event. In his post, and demonstrating his zeal to listen to views from influential experts, McGregor contacted leading personalities in the Bitcoin society, such as Anthony Pompliano and David Bailey.

McGregor’s revived interest in cryptocurrency and economic policies is due to the visit to the White House, where President of the United States Donald Trump publicly flashed his support for him. McGregor was also criticized in Ireland directly following his accusation of sexual assault and his guilty verdict. He is challenging the ruling, which in the past has put him under the media limelight for reasons related to hate speech.

Capitalizing on his previous failures in crypto, McGregor is now arguing for a Bitcoin reserve. Unluckily, however, McLagken supported REAL could not raise the necessary money to get the token up and yet it was pre-selling. This made the project’s failure known to many, as McGregor ended up repaying all the token bidders. However, McGregor opines that more financial freedom can be gained by those in Ireland through Bitcoin.

The timing of McGregor’s proposal aligns with the recent rise in Bitcoin’s value. Bitcoin’s recent record high of $105,000 has sent chatter about its financial future into overdrive. McGregor is optimistic about Bitcoin’s potential future and sees it as an attractive candidate for the reserve currency position. This wouldn’t be his first chance to talk about his vision at the X Spaces, where he will emphasize that the partnership with the best Bitcoin specialists is essential.

Ireland Yet to Act on Bitcoin Reserves Amid Global Trend

McGregor’s proposal has gained notable attention, but it has also provoked debate because it is ambitious and unproven. The U.S., El Salvador, Bhutan and other countries are considering the possibility of owning sovereign Bitcoin reserves. However, up to date, no action has been taken by Ireland in this respect. However, McGregor is still hopeful that a Bitcoin reserve could add to the resilience of Ireland’s currency and allow the nation to gain firmer control over money.

On the other hand, HashKey Group, the largest Asian player in digital asset services, has strengthened its position in the market of Ireland. In January, the Central Bank of Ireland gave HashKey’s HEL the status of a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP). This approval names HashKey as Ireland’s first VASP who has successfully complied with the requirements put forth by the EU Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD5).

Government officials and financial bodies in Ireland may examine the developing discussion as McGregor moves furiously ahead with his plans to deploy a Bitcoin reserve. The question of whether McGregor will run for presidency in 2025 aspires the public even more concerning his attempts to innovate Ireland’s economic policies.
