“There is no better time to show the spirit of the Bored Ape Yacht Club community than by coming together for an important cause. This is why we are auctioning off our Bored Ape and donating 100% of the proceeds to support Ukraine.”

Necaxa is the only Mexican club that showed monetary solidarity with Ukraine.

BAYC #7851 eventually sold for 330K to a private collector, with all proceeds going to charities in Ukraine.

The collector flipped it just 24 hours later for $345,000.

It only took a couple of days to sell the NFT after Mexican La Liga MX club Necaxa announced announced it was for sale.

The NFT on OpenSea is here.

The Necaxa club then announced the sale on its socials.

The Necaxa club emphasized that the new owner of the BAYC (who acquired the piece on March 20) was a collector who asked to be identified as “Franklin.” Franklin owns 40 NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club.

BAYC: Reasons for the sale

According to the Sportico portal, the owner of Necaxa, Al Tylis, said he hoped to “get the attention” of other sports teams to support Ukraine. He reiterated that the resources will go to charities.

Tylis said, “Sports teams have a unique way of bringing people together and, I think, they have a moral obligation not only to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine but also to use their significant financial and other resources to help the people of Ukraine.”

The charities that will receive the proceeds are: Voices of Children, Save the Children, World Central Kitchen, Americares and Care.

As he recounted in his column in Sportico, Tylis says that he immigrated to New York with his family when he was a child. And thanks to hard work and effort, he got to where he is.

Even so, he claims to have acquaintances and friends who are suffering from the invasion and that is why he felt obliged to help.

The club also has their own NFTs, which give buyer of them a small slice of the club.
