Crypto traders with leveraged long positions faced significant forced closures over a 24‑hour period, with total liquidations reported between $117 million and $133 million. Long positions accounted for roughly 70% to 80% of the total, equating to about $80 million to $106 million in bullish bets that were liquidated.
Where the liquidations occurred
The majority of the activity took place in perpetual futures contracts, which have no expiry date and allow traders to maintain leveraged exposure as long as margin requirements are met. Binance processed the largest share of these liquidations, responsible for approximately 50% to 66% of the total volume, or at least $73 million. Bybit and Gate also recorded notable liquidation activity, indicating a market‑wide deleveraging rather than an issue isolated to a single platform.
Asset breakdown
Ethereum led the losses, with liquidated ETH positions ranging from $39 million to $54 million. Bitcoin followed, with $22 million to $32 million in BTC positions closed. Smaller amounts were liquidated in Solana and other altcoins. The single largest liquidation was an estimated $7 million ETH long position on Binance.
Context and implications
The liquidations coincided with modest price declines and were not linked to any exchange failure, regulatory announcement, or security breach. The high proportion of long liquidations suggests that many traders were positioned for upside and had limited margin to absorb a pullback.
While the $117‑$133 million figure represents a notable spike, it remains lower than previous episodes where liquidations reached several hundred million dollars or exceeded a billion dollars during major market moves.
With Binance handling between half and two‑thirds of the liquidation volume, a substantial portion of leveraged risk in the market flows through that exchange. The concentration of liquidations in Ethereum also highlights aggressive leveraged exposure to that asset.
