Two Bitcoin whales moved roughly $200 million worth of BTC onto exchanges over the past 24 hours, a transfer that could signal growing selling pressure. Over the same window, a single large buyer absorbed a substantially larger amount.
According to Santiment data, 14,942 BTC left exchanges today — the biggest outflow in five weeks — while one whale accumulated 11,326 BTC worth $903 million. The exchange outflow came ahead of the Federal Reserve's rate decision on Wednesday and the release of GDP and PCE data on Thursday.
Hyperliquid whales flip to a net short
Glassnode data showed that Hyperliquid whales now hold a net short position in Bitcoin for the first time since March. Those holders had positioned long during the bottom and reversed that stance last week.
The shift in positioning comes as Bitcoin has been consolidating around $80,000, with a recent break above $81,000.
Macro calendar adds volatility risk
Ian Weisberger, CEO of CoinRoutes, highlighted a volatile macro window that includes the Fed rate decision, major tech earnings, $12 billion in Bitcoin options expiring Friday, and the approaching US midterm elections.
Mixed signals from large holders
Taken together, the on-chain data present a divided picture: some large holders are moving coins to exchanges, while exchange outflows, whale accumulation and recent price action indicate that demand has been absorbing the sell-side pressure so far.
