A new NBC News Decision Desk poll powered by SurveyMonkey reveals 71% of US adults believe the nation is headed the wrong direction, marking the highest share during President Donald Trump's second term.
For the first time in his second term, those saying the country is on the "right track" have fallen into the 20s. Trump's approval rating has declined to 34% among all adults, with 66% disapproving. Among registered voters, his approval stands at 39%, while 55% say they prefer Democrats to control Congress following the November 3rd election.

The economy ranks as the top issue at 31% of respondent priorities. Forty-four percent of Americans report their finances are worse than a year ago, compared to just 18% who say they are better off. Sixty-seven percent characterize gas prices as a "very serious" or "somewhat serious" problem.
Sentiment on policies and parties
Fifty-eight percent say Trump's policies are hurting the country, and 52% view his administration as "more corrupt" than past administrations. A majority, 51%, say they "strongly disapprove" of his performance.
Both major parties face poor favorability ratings, with 43% viewing the Democratic Party favorably and 37% saying the same of the Republican Party.
