Agentic onchain payments have shown a rebound, registering their busiest week of 2026. According to data from Token Terminal, the week starting August 17 recorded 8.7 million x402 stablecoin transfers, more than double the 4.1 million recorded the previous week.
For most of the year, weekly counts hovered near 2 million and bottomed below 1 million in March. While the sector remains below its all-time high of approximately 20.1 million transfers set during the week of November 17, 2025, activity has climbed consistently since June.
Circle's USDC continues to maintain a monopoly in the sector, but the distribution of traffic across blockchain networks has shifted. In November 2025, the Base network dominated the category, accounting for 18.7 million of the 20.1 million transfers, representing roughly 93% of the total. Solana handled 1.3 million transfers that week, while Polygon recorded 127,800.
By the week of August 17, Base's market share was reduced to 48% with 4.2 million transfers. Solana followed with 3.3 million transfers, securing a 38% market share, while Polygon and Algorand accounted for 1.1 million and 109,000 transfers, respectively.
Despite the rise in transfer counts, total transfer volume did not scale at the same pace. The week of August 17 saw $367,950 in total value moved, falling short of the year-to-date highs and the all-time high of over $10.017 million recorded in November 2025. The August 17 volume breakdown included $191,816 on Base, $91,715 on Solana, $50,785 on Algorand, and $33,633 on Polygon.
The average x402 transfer value came out to approximately 4 cents, compared to tens of cents in the fourth quarter of 2025. The x402 protocol is designed to process machine-to-machine micropayments per request without traditional payment rails.
