AI Chatbots Speculate on Crypto Market Impact of a Binance Bankruptcy

Following a recent $6.3 billion hack—the largest in cryptocurrency history—Binance demonstrated resilience by restoring withdrawals and covering losses through its SAFU fund and reserves. But speculation persists about what would happen if the exchange instead faced bankruptcy. Three popular AI chatbots—ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini—shared their outlooks on the potential market impact.

ChatGPT: Disorderly Collapse Could Trigger Sharp Declines

ChatGPT suggested that a disorderly Binance bankruptcy could push Bitcoin down 30-50% from its pre-event price, while many altcoins could crash up to 80%. It described a scenario with two simultaneous shocks: panic selling and a reduced pool of buyers.

“Bitcoin would most likely fall because it is easier to sell than smaller assets. A trading firm with money trapped on Binance might sell Bitcoin held elsewhere to meet obligations. The first wave would therefore hit even assets with no direct Binance exposure,” the chatbot explained.

BNB would be the most affected token, according to ChatGPT, potentially losing up to 95% of its value due to its role in network fees and staking within the Binance ecosystem. The platform also predicted the industry would become smaller, more fragmented, and more focused on custody. “The immediate winners would likely be platforms already offering deep liquidity, reliable withdrawals, and institutional access,” it stated, adding that activity would migrate unevenly across countries and that independent custody solutions would become more attractive.

ChatGPT concluded that Bitcoin would have a better chance to recover than the average altcoin, and surviving exchanges could eventually replace Binance’s trading capacity.

Perplexity: Severe Liquidity and Confidence Shock

Perplexity said a Binance bankruptcy would likely cause a severe, short-term liquidity and confidence shock, possibly worse than FTX’s 2022 collapse. “Bitcoin, Ether, BNB, and especially smaller altcoins would likely sell off as traders rush to exit through other venues. BNB would be particularly exposed because it is closely tied to Binance’s ecosystem,” it stated.

The chatbot also warned that in a bad scenario, assets on the exchange could be frozen for years while creditors, regulators, and courts sort out claims.

Gemini: Bitcoin More Resilient, Altcoins Hit Harder

Gemini noted that Binance remains the largest crypto exchange, and its sudden collapse could trigger a price crash of around 65% for Bitcoin and up to 90% for top altcoins. It said Bitcoin would hold up better due to institutional adoption, citing spot BTC ETFs from firms like BlackRock, Fidelity, Invesco, and Franklin Templeton, which have seen cumulative net inflows surpassing $56.5 billion.

Moreover, Gemini claimed a Binance meltdown would end “the mega-exchange era,” suggesting no single platform would ever be allowed to capture 30%+ of global market share again.
