Algorand [ALGO] rallied by more than 17% over the past 24 hours, outpacing gains among the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market cap and bringing its 30-day gains to over 41%. The surge occurred as Bitcoin traded at $82,600, showing weakness in the broader market.
Multiple factors contributed to the rally. Algorand advanced its post-quantum cryptography roadmap launched in June, with post-quantum multisig and hybrid LogicSig accounts scheduled for execution in Q4. The network has already completed 1.6 million post-quantum transactions. Additionally, network activity increased as Algorand supported AI agent payments through Coinbase's x402 protocol, with USDC on Algorand leading payments at $390.4K.
Fundamentals also played a role. Algorand appointed William Herkelrath as CEO, bringing 20 years of blockchain infrastructure experience including prior roles as Chief Revenue Officer at Curv and in a leadership position at Chainlink. The network has benefited from regulatory clarity since March, when the SEC designated Algorand as a digital commodity rather than a security.
Technically, ALGO broke above a bull flag pattern that began correcting on September 28th. The breakout showed significant buying pressure, with cumulative volume delta reaching 17.28 million ALGO longed during the day. For the rally to sustain, the price must remain above $0.13, with the next technical target at $0.19. However, $0.14 has served as resistance since the start of 2026.
Technical analysis also revealed a bearish RSI divergence, suggesting potential profit-taking could follow the current breakout and trigger a short-term correction.
