AlphaToken's XAUa, a gold token that complies with Hong Kong regulations, is now live on Sui. It launched on October 28, 2026, and was built with Sui's Permissioned Asset Standard (PAS), a design choice that controls exactly who is allowed to hold the token.
What XAUa is
Each XAUa token represents one gram of physical gold. The metal is 99.99% pure, carries LBMA certification, and is held in Brinks' custody in Hong Kong.
AlphaToken handles issuance and compliance, while TBook runs the onchain distribution side. TBook is focusing distribution on qualified institutional buyers operating under strict regulatory guidelines, rather than retail traders.
XAUa includes asset segregation and regular oversight reports, along with KYC and AML controls and risk management protocols.
How the gatekeeping works
PAS limits transfers to pre-approved accounts and validates them in real time against Hong Kong's regulatory requirements. Mechanically, PAS requires approval witnesses for transfers; a transfer only goes through if the required approval is present.
Mysten Labs, the team behind Sui, developed PAS, and it is available on Sui mainnet.
The road to Sui
XAUa was previously issued on Ethereum under Alpha Global Reserve Limited, with a similar emphasis on compliance. The Sui deployment extends the product into a Move-based ecosystem; Move is the programming language Sui uses, differing from the Solidity code that powers most Ethereum applications.
TBook and AlphaToken announced their partnership on June 22, 2026, aiming to tackle distribution problems in real-world asset tokenization through compliant channels. In May 2026, AlphaToken also facilitated a similar gold token launch by Yunfeng Financial.
What this means
The launch targets a distribution bottleneck: while tokenizing an asset has become relatively easy, getting it into the hands of legally eligible buyers has not.
There are trade-offs. A token restricted to pre-approved accounts cannot flow freely into open DeFi protocols the way permissionless assets do, limiting composability. Liquidity is another variable, as a gated pool of qualified buyers is by definition smaller than an open market.
With XAUa now on both Ethereum and Sui, AlphaToken is betting that regulated assets will live across several networks rather than consolidate on one. Hong Kong's role is also worth tracking, as the product's compliance framework is built around Hong Kong requirements, and PAS validates transfers against those rules in real time.
