Altcoins showed renewed momentum across the market, adding roughly $215 billion between August 19 and 22. This increase pushed Total2—the combined market value of all cryptocurrencies excluding Bitcoin—back above the $1 trillion threshold.
Market breadth also improved significantly. On Binance, 56 percent of altcoins traded above their 200-day moving average, marking a sharp reversal from a previous period when 80% to 85% of tokens sat below that level.
Top Performing Tokens
Zcash emerged as the week's largest gainer among major assets, surging 71.3% to trade near $832. XRP climbed 48.7% to trade close to $1.47, marking one of its strongest weekly performances in recent memory. Meanwhile, Hyperliquid rose 38.4% with HYPE trading near $80.
Pump.fun gained 81% over the week following its announcement of zero trading fees on Solana tokens. Major cryptocurrencies also posted double-digit weekly gains exceeding 20% each, with Bitcoin trading near $77,000 and Ethereum near $2,437. Solana increased by 25.8% to trade around $94, Dogecoin rose 31%, and BNB gained over 16%.
Market Analysis and Laggards
An analyst referenced past comments from Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, who suggested that over a two-year horizon, the opportunity cost of remaining sidelined from top altcoins may outweigh the risk of purchasing prior to a confirmed bottom.
Not all sectors have experienced the same movement. Bittensor has traded within a tighter range in recent months, while the broader AI token sector remains an area monitored by traders for potential future momentum.
