Bitcoin currently trades 35% below its all-time high of $126,000, prompting analysts to assess when the cryptocurrency might reclaim this peak using historical market cycle patterns.
Historical Cycle Analysis Points to June 2027
Analyst Root, who writes the Bitcoin Strategy newsletter, compared the current recovery with three previous cycles spanning 2015, 2018, and 2022. Historically, Bitcoin has needed around 2 years from market bottoms to enter a phase of setting new highs.
Root's analysis suggests that if Bitcoin follows a similar recovery trajectory as previous cycles, new all-time highs could arrive around the one-year mark, or by approximately June 2027. His chart shows the 2015, 2018, and 2022 cycles all moved above scaled all-time high levels by roughly day 350, though the 2018 cycle reached that threshold near day 150.
Current Cycle Requires Less Ground to Cover
The mathematics of the current cycle also favor a faster recovery. Bitcoin fell roughly 52% from its October 2025 peak to a 2026 low near $60,000. In contrast, the previous three bear markets erased between 77% and 85% of Bitcoin's value.
This means Bitcoin needs only approximately a 2x move from its bottom to set a new record—a comparable move that past cycles completed within about a year. Root notes this timeline also aligns with other halving cycle signals.
Longer-Term Projection Targets $170,000
Analyst Philarekt offers an extended forecast using channel analysis on the three-week chart. According to this analysis, Bitcoin has traded inside an ascending channel since 2021, with each bottom and each top forming higher than the previous cycle.
Philarekt projects the next all-time high on the chart at $170,000, with Bitcoin briefly clearing the current record of $126,000 around mid-2027. The full cycle peak under this model arrives in 2028, broadly aligning with Root's timeline.
Risks to Recovery Timeline
Both analytical models depend on the assumption that the market bottom is already in. Binance Research found that similar rebounds retested their lows in four of five past cases, presenting a potential headwind.
Additional concerns include diminishing returns between cycle peaks. The 2021 to 2025 move between peaks yielded about 83%, while a $170,000 top would deliver roughly 35%. Some analysts also question whether Bitcoin will continue its traditional four-year cycle rhythm or shift toward a longer pattern aligned with traditional finance cycles.
Despite these uncertainties, the data collectively suggest Bitcoin could reclaim $126,000 during 2027, with a larger cycle peak potentially arriving in 2028.
