AnchorWatch Trust Company has opened a Bitcoin custody service as a Nevada-chartered qualified custodian, pairing a choice of key-control structures with an optional insurance route backed by Lloyd’s of London syndicates.
The company said eligible customers can apply for coverage, although it depends on underwriting approval and the terms of an individual policy. AnchorWatch’s launch announcement described a possible limit of up to $370 million per client, while noting that the protection is not automatically attached to every Bitcoin in custody.
Key-control arrangements
AnchorWatch is offering a model in which it controls the keys required for custody while clients can retain additional signing authority. A second arrangement distributes key control among AnchorWatch, BitGo and CoinCorner.
The structure is aimed at professional trustees, company treasuries and advisers who want the controls of regulated custody without concentrating every signing decision in a single institution.
Pricing model
AnchorWatch is positioning fixed-dollar custody charges, with a monthly ceiling of $10,000, against the percentage-based pricing common across institutional asset services. Insurance costs are separate.
What clients still need to assess
The company said the value of the product depends on the actual key arrangements, policy exclusions, service reliability and how clearly clients understand the risks that remain uninsured.
