August delivered broad cryptocurrency gains, with several digital assets posting triple-digit returns. The month's strongest performer was non-playable coin (NPC), a meme-inspired token that rose 206% against the U.S. dollar.
Helium (HNT) followed with a 188.70% gain, while Prometeus Network's PROM token climbed 154.09%. Other significant gainers included the Bitcoin-issued meme coin DOG at 96.65%, the Pump.fun platform's native token PUMP at 96.15%, and the layer-two coin Stacks (STX) at 88.05%.
Additional top performers included Curve DAO's CRV token, which gained 75.48%, alongside Mina Protocol (MINA) with an identical 75.48% increase. Convex Finance (CVX) rose 72.40%, and MultiversX (EGLD) posted a 71.74% gain.
Not all assets participated in the rally. KAITO experienced the steepest decline, losing 67.87% of its value. Centrifuge (CFG) fell 40.30%, while the privacy coin Zano (ZANO) dropped 24.17%. Other notable losers included Jito (JTO) down 15.06%, Ultima (ULTIMA) down 13.81%, and Zigchain (ZIG) down 12.78%.
Looking ahead, historical Bitcoin performance in September presents potential headwinds for the broader market. Bitcoin has finished lower in 8 of the past 13 Septembers, a pattern that has historically coincided with altcoin declines.
