BabyDoge Acquires LimeWire, Gaining Access to 8 Million Monthly Users

BabyDoge has acquired LimeWire, an NFT marketplace, in a deal announced on September 14. No financial terms were disclosed. The acquisition brings together BabyDoge's ecosystem of over 3 million people with LimeWire's 8 million monthly users.

Abel Czupor will assume operational control of LimeWire, replacing Julian and Paul Zehetmayr, the brothers who purchased LimeWire's intellectual property and relaunched it in 2022 as a music-focused NFT marketplace for trading limited editions, unreleased demos, and digital merchandise.

The Zehetmayr brothers said they believed Czupor and BabyDoge could advance the platform further. "The next chapter is about taking that foundation to a much larger audience and community," they stated.

Czupor's vision for LimeWire centers on creator ownership and decentralized storage, along with AI-powered content tools. He described the platform's mission as enabling artists, writers, and researchers to control how their work is used, with AI serving creators rather than corporations.

The LMWR token will remain LimeWire's utility token for platform services, including decentralized file storage and access to AI tools. BabyDoge's own token will not replace it. Czupor characterized BabyDoge as a "DAO-style backer" supporting the platform's independence rather than a traditional corporate parent.

The current LimeWire has no connection to the original Lime Wire LLC or Lime Group LLC, which was taken offline in the 2000s due to copyright infringement lawsuits.

Both tokens have experienced significant declines. LMWR fell 19.4% over the week and is down 64.3% since the start of 2026. BABYDOGE is down 11.2% on the week and down 42.7% year to date, trading approximately 94% below its December 2024 peak with a market cap of roughly $64.21 million.
