A Berlin court has ruled in favor of security researcher Lilith Wittmann in an interim injunction case brought by the Malta Gaming Authority, according to Wittmann's account on Friday. The court permitted her to retain and use documents obtained from the regulator's systems and to publicly describe the authority as an "organized crime enablement scheme," though it barred her from accessing the systems again.
The case stems from Wittmann's breach of an internal Malta Gaming Authority system in March 2026, separate from her access to Curaçao's gambling regulator that led to the "Casino Secrets" leak. The Malta authority sought an interim injunction to halt her public claims about the regulator and prevent further system access. Wittmann contested the injunction, and the Berlin court heard arguments on September 10.
Wittmann characterized the case as a strategic lawsuit against public participation and said it involved roughly 2,000 pages of court documents and legal fees between $17,000 and $22,700. She noted that a loss could have resulted in a penalty of $284,000 or six months in prison.
Hours after the verdict, the Casino Secrets website went offline. Registry records show the domain casinosecrets.lol was placed on server hold at 12:05 UTC on Friday. The leaked database subsequently appeared at a new address, curacaofiles.com, registered in December 2025 and served through Cloudflare.
Wittmann has used approximately 3,000 documents from the Malta Gaming Authority's systems in her reporting. Frankfurt prosecutors searched 11 properties and arrested a main suspect on September 8 in connection with alleged illegal online gambling involving about $6.66 billion in stakes. Wittmann's reporting links the case to the brand Platincasino.
The Malta Gaming Authority oversees 311 active licensees. The European Union's top court ruled in April that a German player can reclaim losses from a Malta-licensed operator, and an Advocate General called Malta's law shielding its operators from foreign judgments "manifestly incompatible" with EU rules.
The Malta Gaming Authority has not commented publicly on the court ruling. Curaçao's gambling regulator called the breach of its systems "a serious breach under Curaçao law" in a statement on September 22 and said it would report the matter to relevant authorities.
