Binance has temporarily suspended cryptocurrency withdrawals while continuing to accept deposits and process trades on its platform. The suspension follows a security incident disclosed on October 30, with the exchange estimating the total impact at approximately $6 billion in affected assets.
The withdrawal pause creates an asymmetry for users: Bitcoin and other crypto assets can be deposited into Binance accounts, but no corresponding withdrawal route is currently available. This leaves holders unable to transfer assets to personal wallets or other exchanges during the suspension period.
Withdrawal Timeline and Service Status
Binance stated that withdrawals are expected to resume within 48 hours as the exchange overhauls its withdrawal service and related addresses. The exchange noted this represents a restoration target rather than a guaranteed precise reopening time.
Service availability varies by region. Binance Japan initially reported that trading remained available while all cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals were suspended. In a later update on October 30, Binance Japan confirmed that crypto deposits, trading, and fiat movements were operating normally, with only crypto withdrawals remaining paused and expected to resume within 48 hours.
Trading Options During Suspension
While withdrawals remain unavailable, users retain access to trading functionality where it remains enabled. Customers holding Bitcoin balances can sell assets or exchange them for other holdings, which changes their market exposure but does not move funds to external wallets or other platforms.
The withdrawal pause also limits arbitrage strategies that depend on moving coins between exchanges, though traders holding balances on multiple venues may retain alternative routes that do not require immediate Binance transfers.
Recovery Measures
Binance stated that approximately $3 billion in affected assets has been frozen on-chain through cooperation with blockchain partners. The exchange promised to cover any losses using its SAFU fund and company reserves, and committed to publishing an updated proof of reserves following remediation.
Verification of service restoration will depend on completed customer withdrawals, corresponding blockchain transactions, and successful asset receipt at destination addresses.
