Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, said it will temporarily halt deposits and withdrawals on the Ethereum network on August 27. The suspension is planned to last about one hour and is intended to support wallet maintenance. The exchange assured users that trading of Ethereum‑based tokens will continue uninterrupted.
In a separate announcement, Binance confirmed the delisting of three altcoins – ICON (ICX), Secret (SCRT) and Storj (STORJ). All spot trading pairs for these assets will be removed on September 3 after the exchange’s internal review concluded that the tokens no longer meet its listing criteria, which include factors such as team commitment, network stability, community activity, trading volume and liquidity.
The exchange noted that similar maintenance actions have been performed previously, including Ethereum wallet maintenance in May and a temporary pause of TRX deposits and withdrawals earlier this year, with operations restored quickly and without reported issues.
Impact on Markets
Following the delisting announcement, the affected tokens experienced price declines, with Secret falling about 25% in a 24‑hour period. Historical precedents show that Binance’s removal of assets often leads to reduced liquidity and price drops for the affected coins.
Previous Delistings
Binance has previously removed several assets, including Across Protocol, Hashflow, PIVX, Vulcan Forged PYR, Vanar and Viction in early August, and Alchemix, Ardor, NFPrompt Token and Marlin in June. Those events were also followed by notable price declines for the respective tokens.
