U.S. crypto ETF flows swung sharply negative on Wednesday, with bitcoin and ether funds shedding a combined $390.97 million. The reversal erased Tuesday's improvement and pushed the two largest ETF categories to roughly $341 million in combined outflows for the week.
Bitcoin ETFs Reverse Course
Bitcoin ETFs lost $261.46 million on Wednesday, with selling concentrated in the same funds that had powered Tuesday's recovery. Fidelity's FBTC shed $152.73 million after attracting $103.06 million the previous day. Blackrock's IBIT lost $110.94 million, reversing its $65.89 million inflow from Tuesday. Bitwise's BITB provided the sole positive reading at $2.22 million.
Trading value reached $2.29 billion across bitcoin funds, while net assets fell to $104.83 billion. Bitcoin ETFs are now down roughly $151 million through the first three trading sessions of the week.
The rapid reversal suggests institutional conviction remains fragile. While investors have shown willingness to re-enter bitcoin, those allocations are proving sensitive to sentiment shifts. For bitcoin's price, ETF demand is functioning as an active source of two-way positioning rather than a stable floor.
Ether ETFs Follow Similar Pattern
Ether ETFs followed a comparable trajectory. Tuesday's $24.84 million inflow ended 10 consecutive sessions of withdrawals, but Wednesday brought a $129.51 million exit that quickly restored the dominant withdrawal trend.
Blackrock's ETHA lost $109.83 million, while Grayscale's Ether Mini Trust shed $18.76 million and Franklin's EZET recorded a $919,290 withdrawal. Trading activity across ether products reached $866.09 million, with net assets dropping to $15.20 billion. Ether funds have lost approximately $190 million this week.
Broader Crypto Market Shows Defensive Positioning
Weakness extended to higher-beta assets. Solana ETFs lost $1.29 million through Bitwise's BSOL, extending their outflow streak to eight consecutive sessions with net assets declining to $1.66 billion. The sustained withdrawals suggest higher-volatility exposure remains difficult to maintain in the current environment.
HYPE ETFs showed unusually broad weakness across all three active products. Bitwise's BHYP lost $1.82 million, Grayscale's HYPG shed $1.73 million, and 21Shares' THYP lost $1.40 million, for $4.95 million in combined net redemptions. XRP provided a modest counterweight, attracting $740,410 through Bitwise's fund.
Zcash delivered one of Wednesday's few positive signals, with Grayscale's ZCSH attracting $3.68 million in its first inflow since the redemption cycle began in late September. Net assets closed at $644.52 million.
The flow picture remains broadly defensive. Tuesday demonstrated that investors are prepared to buy dips in bitcoin and ether, while Wednesday showed how quickly that capital can reverse. The durability of the next inflow session will be more significant than the size of any single positive day.
