Bitcoin climbed approximately 25% over the week, reaching nearly $80,000 and briefly touching $79,500. The rally followed expanded U.S. Treasury buyback operations on long-term bonds, which helped ease long-term government bond yields from nearly two-decade peaks.
The U.S. Treasury Department announced plans to expand its buyback program for longer-maturity government securities, increasing the purchase amount to $4 billion per operation from the previous $2 billion level. This adjustment contributed to a decline in the 30-year Treasury yield from 5.34% to approximately 5.19%.
The price surge triggered significant forced buying activity, resulting in the forced liquidation of approximately $4 billion worth of short cryptocurrency positions during Thursday and Friday trading sessions.
ETF Inflows and Market Reaction
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $1.6 billion in net inflows over the past week, with BlackRock’s IBIT fund drawing $503 million on Thursday alone. Total ETF assets under management increased to more than $85 billion, up from approximately $70 billion in June. Market analysis highlighted that overall ETF accumulation reached $1.92 billion for the week, marking the largest weekly inflow since October 2025.
Financial research firm Bernstein attributed the price recovery to enhanced market liquidity, renewed ETF demand, and expectations for favorable regulatory developments from the SEC and CFTC concerning tokenized securities and prediction markets.
Corporate Holdings and Technical Levels
Strategy's massive holding of 840,447 BTC returned to profitability. With an average cost basis of $75,385, the company's holdings now show unrealized gains exceeding $2 billion. Strategy recently sold roughly 0.8% of its Bitcoin holdings to fund dividends and repurchase programs for its STRC preferred shares, though analysts project the firm will resume acquisitions as STRC nears its $100 nominal valuation.
Market analysts note that Bitcoin has cleared its 200-day moving average, positioned near $69,000, and is currently navigating the $78,000–$80,000 resistance zone.
