Bitcoin traded just under $84,000 on Monday, extending gains that began late last week. The cryptocurrency rose nearly 2% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinDesk data.
Most major altcoins moved higher. Monero's XMR led with a 13% jump to nearly $588, though it pared some gains. Dogecoin added 5% and XRP rose 4% to just above $1.45. Ether, Solana, and Hype each gained about 3%, while BNB and Zcash picked up 2%. Tron posted the smallest gain at under 1%.
Risk assets rose broadly across markets. S&P 500 futures were up more than 0.5% and Nasdaq 100 contracts gained nearly 1%, with technology shares leading. Treasury yields climbed across the curve and European bonds outperformed. The dollar remained flat.
Oil prices drove much of the movement. Brent crude fell for a fourth consecutive session—its longest losing streak in three months—as traders tracked diplomatic developments between Washington and Tehran aimed at easing Middle East tensions and restoring crude shipments. President Donald Trump told Fox News he would "probably" be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the U.N. General Assembly this week.
Lower energy costs ease inflation pressures that have kept the Federal Reserve hawkish. Traders are also positioning ahead of a Trump-Xi summit scheduled for later in the week.
