Bitcoin has traded in the $80,000 region over recent days without a definitive breakout, leaving the cryptocurrency's next move uncertain as market participants assess their positions at this level.
Long-Term Holder Activity Signals Caution
Data from CryptoQuant tracking Bitcoin's Spent Transaction Outputs using a 90-day moving average shows a significant spike to 1,500 Bitcoin, indicating increased spending by long-term holders—investors who have held their assets for more than five years.
This uptick in activity from experienced investors suggests a potential shift in sentiment as Bitcoin reaches local highs. The increased movement of coins held for extended periods can indicate profit-taking or reduced conviction among seasoned market participants.
Analysis of Long-Term Holders using Binary Coin Days Destroyed metrics reveals that the majority of selling pressure occurred between August 19 and 25. However, since peaking on August 25, the metric has declined from 0.85 to 0.14, suggesting reduced selling activity and growing stability among this investor group in recent weeks.
Spot Market Shows Accumulation
Despite concerns about long-term holder sentiment, spot market data indicates growing buying interest. Spot netflow reached negative $252.40 million on September 4 following $2.81 billion in accumulation, though the netflow moderated to around negative $4.03 million by midday on September 5.
The sustained accumulation in spot markets provides support for Bitcoin's price stability during the current consolidation period.
