Bitcoin dropped more than 2% over the preceding 24 hours on October 15, 2026, joining other major cryptocurrencies in a broad-based decline. Ether and Solana fell even further, signaling a move away from riskier investments across the crypto market.

The selloff extended beyond digital assets. Copper futures fell nearly 1%, extending a 1.6% decline from the previous day. Asian stocks declined, driven by losses in Korean chipmakers, while Nasdaq futures and risk-sensitive currency pairs also moved lower.

Investors simultaneously moved into traditional safe-haven assets. The 10-year Treasury yield fell eight basis points to 5.08%, continuing a pullback from a recent peak of 5.36%. Gold rose 1% during the period. These moves reflected a flight to safety among market participants.

Market analysts attributed the shift to stagflation concerns, where economic slowdown and inflation pressures coexist. "It feels more like a stagflationary environment where risk assets and the US dollar generally underperform, while gold outperforms," according to InvestingLive analyst Giuseppe Dellamotta.

The moves followed a hotter-than-expected U.S. consumer price index report on October 14, which had initially raised concerns about potential Federal Reserve interest rate increases. However, those concerns appeared to be fading by October 15. CME fed funds futures priced in only a 29% chance of the central bank raising its benchmark rate to the 4%–4.25% range later in the month, with the remaining probability reflecting unchanged rates at 3.75%–4%.

Producer price data was expected on October 17 to provide additional insight into remaining pipeline inflation. A stronger-than-expected reading could intensify the risk-off sentiment.

Some analysts noted ether was testing a support zone near $2,350, formed by technical price levels that had persisted since August and marked the bullish trend from July lows. A break below this confluence would indicate weakening demand.
