Bitcoin's latest price rally has pushed the cryptocurrency above its 200-day moving average for the first time in about nine months, according to charting platform Barchart. The technical move marks the first time BTC has crossed the threshold since November 2025, which followed a period roughly a month after the asset reached an all-time high above $126,000.
The 200-day moving average is a widely watched indicator used to evaluate longer-term market trends. Moving above this level is frequently interpreted as a sign of bullish momentum, and a sustained break could indicate that Bitcoin's months-long downtrend is beginning to weaken. TradingView data showed Bitcoin climbing to nearly $73,000 on Thursday.
The upward price movement coincided with a more than 13% gain for Bitcoin since Wednesday, following an announcement from the U.S. Treasury Department. The Treasury stated it would at least double the size of liquidity-support buybacks for longer-dated Treasury securities, raising the maximum cap from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation starting September 9.
Designed to improve liquidity at the long end of the Treasury market, the policy initially pushed long-term yields lower and supported risk appetite across broader financial markets. Following the announcement, Standard Chartered analyst Geoff Kendrick noted that the shift could help support a broader Bitcoin rally toward $100,000 by the end of the year.
Additionally, Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded $517 million in inflows, marking their largest single-day inflow since early May.
