Bitcoin is trading around $85,800, down less than 1% over 24 hours after reaching an intraday high near $87,300 on Monday, as market participants shift capital toward altcoins.
The rotation into alternative tokens accelerated following CME Group's Monday announcement that it will list Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures beginning October 19. Bitcoin Cash jumped 28% over 24 hours to nearly $349, marking the largest move among major tokens.
Futures contracts on regulated U.S. exchanges provide institutional investors with exposure to cryptocurrencies without requiring direct custody, addressing mandates that restrict some funds from holding digital assets. The contracts also create hedging opportunities for market makers, which typically narrows spreads in spot markets.
Zcash rose 9% to just above $1,646, while XRP gained 3% to nearly $1.59. Tron fell 2% during the same period.
Analyst perspective on capital rotation
Alex Kuptsikevich, senior analyst at FxPro, attributed the shift to renewed optimism in altcoins and equities. "Many investors had parked their cryptocurrency-allocated capital in the most liquid asset class and are now seeking more profitable opportunities," Kuptsikevich said.
He noted that while such rotations have previously led to slowdowns in Bitcoin, they have not typically reversed the broader trend, as price pullbacks have historically attracted new buyers who had stayed out of the crypto market.
Bitcoin Cash price context
Bitcoin Cash has climbed back to levels last seen in the second half of May, after falling to $190 in early January. Continued upward momentum could carry the token toward $450, where buyers were active between October 2025 and May of this year.
