U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ended a nine-day buying streak on August 28 with a $202 million net outflow, according to Sosovalue data. The streak had accumulated approximately $3.04 billion in inflows since August 17.
The outflow came as spot ether ETFs bucked the trend, adding $102 million on the same day and extending their own buying run to ten consecutive days.
Bitcoin ETF Milestone Reached
The nine-day bitcoin ETF rally had pushed combined assets past $100 billion in net assets on August 27. Blackrock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) added $277.6 million in a single day, while Fidelity's FBTC shed $83.6 million and Grayscale's GBTC declined $27.2 million.
Bitcoin ETFs have experienced volatile swings throughout the year. In May, the same funds logged a nine-day outflow streak that drained roughly $2.8 billion.
Ether ETFs Continue Momentum
Spot ether ETF inflows have remained strong, with the category pulling in $2.6 billion during its strongest week since October earlier in August. Blackrock's ETHA contributed significantly to these inflows, tripling the sector's usual trading volume.
Bitcoin Price and Trading Context
Bitcoin opened on August 28 at $80,261.86 before declining to around $77,500. The asset was up approximately 1 percent over the past week. Roughly $6.4 billion in Deribit options expired on the same Friday as the outflow.
ETF watchers will monitor subsequent trading sessions to determine whether the single day of outflows represents profit-taking or the beginning of a longer-term reversal.
