Bitcoin Exchange Inflows Rise as BTC Holds Near $80K Ahead of Fed Decision

Bitcoin's 30-day average exchange netflow turned positive for the first time since September, shifting from an outflow of 3,950 BTC to an inflow of 182 BTC between October 18 and 28. The change signals a potential shift in holder behavior as BTC trades near $80,000.

Bitcoin Exchange Inflows Rise as BTC Holds Near $80K Ahead of Fed Decision

Bitcoin's exchange netflows have reversed direction after six weeks of sustained outflows, marking a notable shift in market dynamics. According to CryptoQuant data, the 30-day average exchange netflow climbed by 4,132 BTC in 10 days, moving from an outflow of 3,950 BTC on October 18 to an inflow of 182 BTC on October 28.

Positive exchange netflows indicate that more Bitcoin is entering exchanges than leaving them. Traders often view this as a sign of potential selling pressure, since deposits to exchanges make Bitcoin easier to sell. However, deposits alone do not confirm that holders intend to liquidate their holdings.

The current reading remains substantially below levels seen during previous market downturns. CryptoQuant recorded netflows of roughly 4,000 to 5,000 BTC during February and June sell-offs, when BTC fell from $88,000 to $63,000 and from $81,000 to $60,000 respectively.

Market analyst IT Tech characterized the shift as a change in holder behavior rather than evidence of aggressive selling, suggesting traders should monitor whether inflows accelerate before drawing conclusions about a major market decline.

Price Levels and Technical Outlook

Bitcoin traded at $79,791.87, down 2.06% over 24 hours and 3.19% over seven days. Maintaining support near $80,000 remains important for assessing short-term price direction.

Analyst Crypto Patel identified $80,108 as an inducement level and $74,911 as the next liquidity target on the downside. In a deeper correction scenario, a potential higher-low zone exists between $62,000 and $69,000. These levels represent the analyst's trading roadmap and are not confirmed price targets.

Macroeconomic Context

The Federal Reserve held interest rates at 3.75% to 4.00% on October 28, though two officials voted for a 25-basis-point increase. This dissent points to persistent inflation concerns that could affect risk assets if markets begin expecting tighter monetary policy.

The December Federal Reserve meeting is likely to serve as a catalyst for Bitcoin's direction. Declining inflation could support a recovery in risk assets, while persistent price pressures could reinforce expectations for higher rates.

For now, traders are weighing two signals: rising exchange inflows and Bitcoin's difficulty maintaining support near $80,000. A sustained increase above 2,000 BTC in average netflows combined with a breakdown below $80,000 would strengthen the bearish case.
