Bitcoin Faces Renewed Selling Pressure as $74,600 Support Level Becomes Critical

Bitcoin Faces Renewed Selling Pressure as $74,600 Support Level Becomes Critical

Bitcoin is trading at $82,529.31 after falling 3.96% over the past seven days, marking a broader 7% pullback from recent highs. Analytics firm CryptoQuant linked the decline to U.S. government Bitcoin transfers and elevated unrealized profits among investors.

The U.S. government's tracked Bitcoin holdings fell by 17,468 BTC since October 6, valued at approximately $1.44 billion. The transfers included 569 BTC on October 6, 4,632 BTC on October 7, and 12,267 BTC on October 8, leaving the tracked government balance at 174,481 BTC. While these transfers coincided with Bitcoin's pullback, available data does not establish that every transferred coin was sold.

Short-term holders have also intensified activity, transferring 45,600 BTC to exchanges within 24 hours. Of that amount, 29,100 BTC moved at a loss, marking the largest loss-side exchange flow since June. Large exchange inflows can signal greater readiness to reduce exposure, though transfers do not automatically indicate coins have been sold.

Key Support Levels Under Scrutiny

CryptoQuant identified $74,600 as the short-term holder realized price, representing the average acquisition price of Bitcoin held by recent investors. Maintaining levels above this threshold would preserve the early bull-market structure, while a decisive break below it could increase the risk of deeper correction.

Technical analyst Dami-Defi identified $82,500 as Bitcoin's immediate decision point, aligning with an earlier May high. A weekly close below $82,500 could open a move toward $76,500, with approximately $74,000 providing another support area. Bitcoin would need to reclaim the $87,000 region to strengthen the recovery case, with potential upside toward $95,000–$96,000.

Mixed Momentum Signals

Momentum indicators present a more balanced picture. The weekly Relative Strength Index stands at 57.77, while the MACD histogram remained positive despite contracting. Analyst Lennaert Snyder identified potential resistance zones near $84,000, $85,000, $87,400, and $90,000 following more than $1 billion in long liquidations.

For now, Bitcoin faces competing forces: selling pressure from government transfers and short-term holder activity, balanced against technical support levels that could help stabilize prices.
