The decline accelerates as Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of October 10, 2025, when bitcoin plunged from about $122,000 to $105,000 within minutes during thin Friday evening trading. Bitcoin is down more than 8% since nearly reaching $87,000 four days prior.
Other major digital assets showed steeper losses. Ether and XRP fell approximately 6% over the past 24 hours, while Solana declined 9%. All three have posted double-digit percentage losses over the past week.
Multiple factors weighed on markets. Rising oil prices and interest rates pose potential headwinds for risk assets like bitcoin. Regulatory uncertainty following the Clarity Act's failure and the upcoming midterm elections add to investor concerns about potential shifts in policy affecting digital assets.
Despite the current weakness, institutional adoption signals remain mixed. A State Street survey of 300 asset managers, owners, and wealth managers found that 51% expect digital assets to become mainstream within five years, up from 11% in 2024. Surveyed institutions hold an average of 11% of their portfolios in digital assets and anticipate increasing that allocation over the next three years.
