Bitcoin software company Breez has reported a roughly 14-fold increase in partnership inquiries since AI coding agents became mainstream, driven by developers seeking to integrate bitcoin payments into their applications.
The surge corresponds with the launch and subsequent general availability of Anthropic's Claude Code, which became widely accessible in 2025. Breez tied the timing directly to this development in a company blog post.
Expanding Developer Base
Before 2025, Breez said most prospective partners were committed bitcoin enthusiasts, crypto developers, or fintech firms treating bitcoin as an asset class. Since then, the company has fielded integration requests from developers with minimal bitcoin experience, including creators of fitness apps, messaging platforms enabling peer-to-peer money transfers, eSIM services for travelers, and a mushroom-identification application.
Speed and Accessibility
Developers increasingly cite speed as a primary reason for choosing bitcoin integration. According to Breez, setting up traditional payment acceptance—involving bank account establishment and cross-border transfer infrastructure—typically requires weeks or months, whereas the company's SDK can be operational within minutes.
Breez noted that a growing proportion of inquiries now originate from software agents rather than human developers. The company regularly receives partnership requests from coding agents acting on behalf of the organizations deploying them.
Permissionless Infrastructure
Breez attributes agent preference for bitcoin to its permissionless architecture. An agent can build an application and establish payment systems for users globally without opening a bank account, completing onboarding procedures, or executing agreements.
The company stated in its blog post: Bitcoin is agnostic about whether the code of its current owner and user is composed of DNA base pairs or weights in a neural net.
This absence of gatekeeping, which has historically drawn regulatory scrutiny from financial authorities requiring customer verification, positions bitcoin differently from traditional payment providers.
Infrastructure Capacity
Breez's newest SDK implementation, built on the Bitcoin scaling protocol Spark, managed the increased volume without disruption, according to the company.
Breez characterized the shift as an extension of venture capitalist Marc Andreessen's 2011 thesis on software consuming traditional industries, suggesting AI is now consuming software. The company positioned bitcoin's role as analogous to foundational infrastructure such as electrical sockets and subsea cables.
