Bitcoin recently peaked near the $79,000 level following an almost 25% weekly increase, which pushed short-term holders deeper into profit. Following this movement, a 1% intraday pullback suggested a potential supply zone forming near $80,000 as some short-term holders took profits.
Amidst this price action, the Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index closed the week more than 9% lower from the 70-level, moving away from Greed territory even while Bitcoin remained close to its recent highs. This divergence between price and sentiment has caught the attention of market analysts, raising speculation about potential market dynamics.
Despite the cooling sentiment shown by the index, demand has remained resilient. Exchange-traded funds have purchased a significant share of Bitcoin over recent days, and on-chain spot bids around the $80,000 level have held up.
Later market data showed the Fear & Greed Index reversing and moving higher by more than 15% within 24 hours, returning deeper into the Greed category. Historical patterns indicate that Bitcoin tends to experience resistance when market euphoria peaks, with potential short-term resistance expected around $82,000 as the index nears extreme greed territory.
As long as underlying demand remains strong, market observers note that Bitcoin could see continued movement, making ongoing sentiment divergences a key signal to watch.
