Bitcoin Rally Lifts Bitget Protection Fund to $382M Average in August

Bitget has published its August 2026 Protection Fund report, revealing an average valuation of $382 million for the month. The fund, established in 2022, serves as an additional safeguard for user assets during extreme market events.

The Protection Fund's valuation fluctuated between a monthly low of $345.3 million on August 1 and a monthly high of $441.5 million on August 27, ending the month at approximately $432 million. Throughout August, the fund maintained valuations above its original $300 million commitment, supported by Bitget's holdings of 5,500 BTC.

Bitcoin's price movement drove much of the fund's valuation changes during the period. The cryptocurrency rose from $62,773 on August 1 to $78,553 on August 31, representing a gain of more than 25%. Bitcoin traded between $62,773 and $80,268 throughout the month, with momentum accelerating in the second half.

Bitget's Protection Fund operates alongside the exchange's Proof of Reserves system, which maintains reserves exceeding user assets across major holdings. The fund's valuation is published transparently and updated regularly to provide users visibility into available reserves.

Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, stated that the exchange maintains substantial onchain reserves and public disclosure of their value as part of building trust into the platform. The Protection Fund operates as part of the exchange's broader security architecture as it expands across crypto assets, tokenized stocks, commodities, and other financial markets.
