Bitcoin Rally Transforms Strategy's Holdings Into a $4.7B Paper Profit

Michael Saylor’s Strategy shifted from an unrealized loss of more than $9.5 billion to a paper profit exceeding $4.7 billion over a seven-day period. The reversal accompanied Bitcoin's climb from the low $60,000s to above $80,000, turning the balance sheet of the largest corporate Bitcoin holder from red to green.

According to Strategy’s dashboard, the firm holds 840,477 BTC acquired at an average price of $75,385. Because the average purchase price remains above $75,000, the position remains sensitive to ongoing price movements.

During the seven-day stretch, the firm did not buy or sell any Bitcoin. Its last recorded Bitcoin transaction occurred on August 10, when it sold 1,690 BTC. However, Strategy sold 18.26 million shares of MSTR for $2.01 billion, moving $1.59 billion into a second reserve designated as USD Cash for potential future Bitcoin purchases. Its regular USD reserve also expanded to $5.1 billion, and the firm repurchased $136 million of its STRC preferred shares, which reached $97.21 toward their $100 par value.

Addressing the market shift on social media, Saylor wrote that Bitcoin is transcending its prejudices rather than abandoning its principles, following an essay arguing that adoption by exchange-traded funds, corporate treasuries, and regulated custody represents a natural stage of growth.

The broader cryptocurrency market rally pushed Bitcoin above $80,000 for the first time since mid-May, reaching a multi-month high above $81,000 according to CoinGecko data. The asset gained roughly 25% over the week and about 4% in 24 hours.

The upward movement liquidated more than $260 million in short positions within four hours, driving total daily liquidations to approximately $650 million, with Bitcoin representing at least half of that total. Analysts noted that Bitcoin closed above its 20-, 50-, and 200-day exponential moving averages against the dollar, gold, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq 100 for the first time in months.

Other digital assets participated in the rally:

  • Ethereum climbed above $2,500 after a 32% weekly gain.
  • XRP surpassed $1.50.
  • Solana returned above $100 for the first time in months, posting a daily gain of over 7.5%.

Additionally, market data highlighted Bitcoin's ten-year returns at 13,491%, placing it slightly ahead of Nvidia's 13,428% return over the same period.
