Bitcoin rebounded above $80,000 after dropping to $79,000, its lowest level since September 18. The recovery came shortly after analyst Peter Schiff predicted the cryptocurrency would fall further to $75,000.
Schiff stated on social media that "Bitcoin is finally breaking down" and warned of a difficult weekend ahead for Bitcoin investors, particularly those holding Bitcoin ETFs who would be unable to trade until Monday. Instead, Bitcoin recovered swiftly and briefly touched $81,000 before settling above $80,000 on Sunday morning, approximately $5,500 above Schiff's predicted target.
History of Predictions
Schiff's latest forecast follows a pattern of previous price predictions that did not occur as stated. His track record includes:
- 2018 bear market: predicted a crash to $750
- 2019: stated Bitcoin would never reach $50,000
- 2021: acknowledged Bitcoin could briefly reach $100,000 but predicted permanent decline to zero was "inevitable"
- 2022 bear market: reiterated that Bitcoin would not return to $50,000 after the asset fell below $20,000
- 2024: warned that Bitcoin ETF launches would result in no demand and a price crash. Bitcoin ETF products have since accumulated over $55 billion in inflows, with BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF surpassing its gold products in its debut year
- July 2024: advised investors would regret not selling when Bitcoin was below $65,000. Bitcoin rallied within the following month
