Bitcoin Slips Toward $80,500 as Bearish Averages Test $80,350 Support

Bitcoin Slips Toward $80,500 as Bearish Averages Test $80,350 Support

Bitcoin changed hands near $80,500 on Saturday morning, around 8 a.m. Eastern time, pinned close to the bottom of its daily range as shorter-term technical signals leaned bearish. Exchange aggregation data put the 24-hour low at $80,409, while Bitstamp records showed an intraday support reference at roughly $80,351 per coin.

The broader picture is mixed. About ten of 15 moving average readings favor the downside, yet nine of 11 oscillators remain neutral, leaving the market caught between deteriorating price action and momentum gauges that have not confirmed a deeper retreat.

Short-Term Charts Show Buyers Struggling

On the one-hour BTC/USD chart, bitcoin is attempting to establish a footing after sliding toward $80,500. Volume declined during the most recent push to session lows, which suggests selling intensity may be moderating, though buyers still face an uphill climb.

In that timeframe, a recovery through $80,800 would bring $81,200 into focus. Another failure around $80,350 would place the psychological $80,000 level directly in the path of further selling.

Four-Hour Structure Favors Sellers

The four-hour chart is less forgiving. Bitcoin retreated from approximately $84,843 to $80,499 while carving out successive lower highs and lower lows, a sequence indicating that sellers have repeatedly interrupted recovery attempts.

The $81,500 to $82,000 band stands as the first substantial resistance barrier. A sustained recovery beyond $82,000 would begin to challenge the prevailing bearish structure, while another rejection in that range would preserve the downward pattern and leave the $80,350 support reference exposed to renewed pressure.

Daily Chart Reflects a Divided Technical Picture

Zooming out, bitcoin is still working through the consequences of an earlier rejection near $87,374, a level now well above the current trading range. Lower highs and increasingly fragile recoveries have left the $82,000 to $84,000 region crowded with potential resistance, with the $80,000 threshold serving as the next major defensive position.

The $81,939 session high offers another reference for measuring any recovery attempt. A daily close beneath $80,000 would strengthen the case for a move toward $79,000 and potentially $78,000, although the longer-term moving averages have not abandoned their positive positioning.

Oscillators Neutral, Moving Averages Negative

Daily oscillator readings offer a counterweight to the weakening price structure:

  • The relative strength index registered 43, indicating negative momentum without an extreme oversold reading.
  • The Stochastic oscillator stood at 25 and the commodity channel index reached minus 129.
  • The average directional index measured just 17, pointing to limited trend strength despite the bearish chart structure.
  • The moving average convergence divergence registered minus 203 with a bearish signal, while the momentum indicator at minus 1,074 carried a positive classification.

With nine neutral readings against one positive and one negative, the oscillators do not suggest sellers have achieved unanimous technical confirmation.

Moving averages tell a more bearish short-term story. Bitcoin is trading below its 10-period exponential moving average at $81,860, its 20-period simple moving average at $82,528 and its 50-period exponential moving average at $80,782, all of which sit overhead as immediate resistance. The 100-period exponential moving average at $77,526 and the 200-period simple moving average at $72,899 remain beneath spot prices, preserving a longer-term positive foundation.
