Bitcoin Stages V-Shaped Recovery After Midterm Dip Below $76,000

Bitcoin slid to just under $76,000 early Wednesday as reports indicated Democrats were sweeping both chambers of Congress, but the largest cryptocurrency quickly recovered its losses within hours.

A round trip in a matter of hours

Before the vote, Bitcoin had been trading near $77,500. It then hit an intraday low of approximately $75,630 on November 4, 2026, the morning after Americans went to the polls on November 3.

Traders had plenty of warning about what was coming. Ahead of the vote, prediction market Kalshi gave Democrats a 94% chance of taking the House and a 74% chance of winning the Senate.

Markus Thielen, founder of 10x Research, had flagged that possibility. He said a momentum indicator suggested Bitcoin was oversold and could rebound toward $82,000. Thielen’s broader view is more measured than a straight line up. He projected a $90,000 year-end target for Bitcoin, while warning that near-term dips into the mid-to-high $70,000s remain possible.

Why Washington matters so much to crypto right now

The election mattered to crypto traders for one main reason: the CLARITY Act. The bill aims to set clearer market-structure rules for digital assets, answering long-running questions about which regulators oversee which tokens.

The House passed the CLARITY Act 294-134 in July 2025. That was a comfortable, bipartisan margin by modern standards. Since then, the bill has stalled. If it is not advanced before the new Congress convenes in January 2027, it will need to be reintroduced and start the process over.

The other weights on the market

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded net outflows exceeding $1 billion around the election period. Outflows peaked at $643.3 million in a single day.

Security concerns have also weighed on sentiment. A $6.3 billion incident tied to a Binance hot wallet raised fresh questions about security and investor confidence.

What this means for investors

Kalshi’s odds made a Democratic House close to a consensus expectation. The initial drop looks more like traders reacting to confirmation than to new information, and the reversal reflects that realization setting in.

The key thing to watch is the CLARITY Act’s path before January 2027. Any movement on the bill during the lame-duck session could shape whether the industry gets its long-awaited rulebook soon or waits through another round of drafting and debate.

ETF flows are the second signal worth tracking. The more than $1 billion that left spot Bitcoin funds around the election represents real selling pressure, and a reversal in those flows would offer a cleaner read on institutional appetite than any single day’s price action.

Thielen’s framework offers a reasonable map for the weeks ahead. His $82,000 rebound call rests on oversold momentum, while his $90,000 year-end target comes paired with the possibility of renewed dips into the mid-to-high $70,000s.
