Bitcoin Suisse plans to relocate up to half of its Zug headquarters positions abroad, moving as many as 60 jobs primarily in back-office and administrative functions to Bratislava, Slovakia, and Vietnam. The company briefed employees on the restructuring Friday, with the final number of positions to be determined after a 10-day consultation period. First layoffs are expected to take effect before year-end.
Founded in 2013, Bitcoin Suisse built its reputation on cryptocurrency trading and custody services before expanding into staking and lending. The relocation marks a strategic shift toward serving wealthy private clients, family offices, and institutional investors with services extending beyond cryptocurrency.
CEO Andrej Majcen told Finews that international growth is now the company's priority, with plans to leverage its crypto expertise into broader wealth and asset management. He characterized the move as cost-driven, noting that the same services can be delivered more cheaply in Bratislava and Vietnam.
The company has secured regulatory licenses to support its expanded operations, including a MiCAR license in Liechtenstein, digital-asset and investment licenses in Bermuda, and regulatory approval from Abu Dhabi's financial authority.
Majcen stressed that the relocation is not tied to current market conditions, stating the firm has sufficient resources to weather the crypto downturn. Zug will remain the company headquarters, the Bitcoin Suisse name will be retained, and the firm remains open to acquisitions in Switzerland.
