Bitcoin Surpasses $80,000 Amid Strong ETF Demand and Treasury Buybacks

Bitcoin rose above $80,000 on Tuesday for the first time since mid-May, marking its strongest weekly rally in more than two years. According to CoinGecko data, Bitcoin traded as high as $81,160.06, bringing its seven-day gain to approximately 25.8%.

The recent price movement coincided with renewed demand via US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, which attracted $1.92 billion in net inflows over the preceding week. US spot Ether ETFs also saw their largest inflow since October, drawing $608 million.

Fabian Dori, chief investment officer at Sygnum Bank, noted that the market strength was driven by fundamental spot demand and allocator flows through ETFs rather than pure leverage, pointing out that such rallies tend to be more durable than those driven by crowded futures positioning.

Additional momentum came from policy and macroeconomic developments. On Wednesday, the US Treasury announced plans to at least double the maximum size of its long-end liquidity-support buybacks to $4 billion per operation. Additionally, President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass crypto market structure legislation during a White House event.

Analysts at Bernstein, led by Gautam Chhugani, identified the Treasury decision as a strong trigger for Bitcoin's rise, observing that the cryptocurrency has historically reacted positively to liquidity expansion.
